Why we need your support

Inspired

British Olympic Association... building on our success

The BOA provides the pivot around which Team GB revolves prior to, and during the Olympic Games.

We are not funded or controlled by government, have no political interests and are completely dependent upon commercial sponsorship and fundraising income. We are the strong, independent voice for British Olympic Sport.

Our role is to lead and prepare our nation’s finest athletes at the Olympic Games and we are responsible for developing the Olympic Movement throughout the UK.

Determined

Securing Olympic Success... leading Team GB

We are currently in a unique position. As a result of London winning the bid to host the 2012 Games, we cannot generate revenue through sponsorship as we have done previously: all commercial rights are owned by the 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG).

The cost of providing a world-class training environment for Team GB in the critical 2-3 weeks prior to entering the Olympic Village is expensive. We also provide medical staff and provisions, training, performance and administrative staff which all costs money. It will cost the BOA £18,000 to send just one athlete to Beijing this summer and 295 athletes will compete for Team GB.

Not having this essential support will seriously jeopardise the performance of Team GB and would have a direct impact on the number of medals won.

Passionate

London 2012……Future success

Team GB athletes are strong, positive role models for young people in the UK. Many of Team GB's medallists run programmes which aim to encourage participation in sport, promote physical activity and the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle. Team GB has a direct impact on getting thousands of young people into sport each year; the same young people who could be our gold medallists in London 2012 and beyond. None of this would happen without your support.
