Archers Strike Gold in Delhi

England’s archers have won two team gold medals and a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games test event at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Delhi, which is also an of the archery venue for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The two team gold medals came this morning in the men’s and women’s compound competition, whilst the men’s recurve team won bronze.
 
The England women’s team of Andrea Gales, Nichola Simpson and Nicky Hunt won gold after defeating host nation India 30-25 in a three-arrow shoot-off. Whilst the men’s team of James Forbes, James Bingham and Mark Franklin also beat the hosts, India, earning them a place in the final against Malaysia who they beat 232-229.

The men’s recurve team of Rob Hallworth, Jon Shales and Lee Williams added a third medal of the campaign for England. They lost their semi-final match against India, who went on to win gold, but the England trio then beat Scotland 210-203 in the bronze medal match.

The men’s England hockey team were also in action today in Delhi in the Hockey World Cup semi-final against reigning Olympic Champions Germany. England lost to the Germans 4-1 and now face the losers of the second semi final, Australia or the Netherlands, in the bronze medal match on Saturday morning 10am GMT.
