The baton has been passed from Lignano Sabbiadoro in Italy, scene of the 2005 European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), to Belgrade in Serbia where the 9th edition of the summer version of the EYOF will take place in July 2007.

The 2005 games in Italy saw the Great Britain team finish in an exceptional third position overall, picking up 13 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals and finishing behind only Russia and hosts Italy in the final medal table. The 2007 Festival will include 11 sports and 97 events in total with four team competitions and seven categories of an individual nature.

The European Youth Olympic Festival, sponsored by the European Olympic Committees and the International Olympic Committee, is the largest event of its kind in Europe and it is anticipated that approximately 2,000 elite young athletes from over 45 European countries will participate in the 2007 Festival.
