BRITS TO WATCH

Aimee Willmott

Sport: Aquatics - Swimming

Like father, like daughter, Aimee Willmott, the National 400m and 200m individual medley Champion, looks set to follow in her father Stuart’s footsteps. Willmott senior represented Team GB at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and daughter Aimee is hoping the 2007 EYOF will prove to be a useful stepping stone to fulfil her ambition of competing at an Olympic Games.

Christopher Whorrall

Sport: Cycling - Road Cycling

Cyclist Chris Whorrall was the British National Champion (under-14), in a season in 2005 which saw him come 3rd in the British National Track Championships and 2nd in the British National Series.  A bright young talent from a sport which historically brings home a sack full of medals for Team GB at the Olympic Games, Whorrall will no doubt relish the experience at the European Youth Olympic Festival.

Eugene Ayanful

Sport: Athletics

At the first UK Schools Games, Eugene Ayanful certainly made his mark coming away with silver medals in both the 200m and 4x100m relays. The 100m sprinter from Essex is relishing the chance of competing in a large multi-sport competition and seeing how he fares against Europe’s best young athletes.

Gavin Evans

Sport: Table Tennis

At the 2007 Canadian Junior Open the British team cleaned up, particularly 14-year-old Gavin Evans who came away with the junior team, doubles and cadet individual titles. Let’s hope the 2007 EYOF brings Evans similar success and Team GB a host of medals.

Rebecca Telfer

Sport: Judo

Current British Junior Champion, 16-year-old Rebecca Telfer is starting to stake her claim on the judo world stage. Finishing 3rd in the Cadet European Championships last year, the young talent from Coventry is aiming for another European victory at the 2007 EYOF.
