FTSE - BOA Initiative
The BOA has developed an initiative, which partners FTSE companies with the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of Olympic sports to help improve the effectiveness of their business delivery and performance.
Businesses will offer ‘support in kind’ (as opposed to offering financial sponsorship) through skills and knowledge transfer, and will be able to access agreed benefits through the sport.
This programme is co-ordinated by a Project Director, Bev Salt who is on secondment to the BOA from AstraZeneca.
The scope and focus of the individual relationships will vary from sport to sport in order to address their differing needs and the expertise available. The agreements will be between the NGBs and the individual businesses, although the overall programme is facilitated by the Programme Director within the BOA.
The intention is for the relationships to extend up to, and potentially beyond, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in order to give the partnerships the best opportunity of making a lasting difference in this challenging and exciting period.
The nine NGBs and FTSE companies whose partnerships were announced at the launch of the initiative on 14th February 2007 are: Corus - triathlon; Skandia - biathlon; British Gas - hockey; Vertex - volleyball; British Airways - snowsportGB; SAB Miller - fencing; Wolseley - gymnastics; Home Retail Group - badminton, and Group 4 Securicor - judo.doc. A further five partnerships were added later in 2007: archery - Standard Life Investments; ice skating – Experian; modern pentathlon – Marks & Spencer; sailing – Accenture; taekwondo - O2. In March 2008 a further three partnerships joined the programme: John Lewis - equestrian; Sainsbury's - table tennis. More recently, the following partnerships have been established: Rolls-Royce and canoeing, Atos and bobsleigh/skeleton, AstraZeneca and rowing, and RBS and curling.
