Gold Medal for GB Track Cycling Men's Sprint Team

Team GB's track cyclists got off to a golden start on the first night of competition at the Laosham Velodrome in Beijing as the men's sprint team defeated France to win Team GB's third gold medal of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Team GB members Chris Hoy, Jamie Staff and Jason Kenny were the fastest team in qualification and beat USA by over two seconds in the next round to qualify fastest for the final.

A convincing victory in a time of 43.128secs was sealed by Chris Hoy who collects his second Olympic gold medal following his 1km time trial triumph in Athens four years ago.

Team GB's medal count now stands at a total of eight, including three gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Meanwhile Bradley Wiggins began the defence of his individual pursuit crown by breaking his own Olympic record in qualifying.
