Gallantree Gains Invaluable Springboard Lesson

15/08/2008

Olympic debutant Rebecca Gallantree was unable to progress beyond the qualification of the women’s individual 3m springboard this afternoon.

The Leeds based diver produced a selection of strong dives, But where her aerial work was strong her entries were not up to par and on placings she remained in the twenties from the 30 starters for much of the qualifying competition.

Her final tally was 232.75 in a qualifying round led by Chinese diver Guo Jingjing with 373.90.

It means Gallantree does not progress to Saturday’s (16 August) semi final, but she took away some valuable experience:

“These Olympics for me are all about experience. It’s my first Games as it is for most of the young British squad and the aim is to gain an insight and invaluable lessons,” she said.

“I’m improving all the time and growing as a diver, days like today add so much to that.

“I’m disappointed not to be in that next round but I know this whole Olympic adventure will serve me well as I look to 2012.”

Next Team GB diving interest will take place on Monday (18 August) as Benjamin Swain goes in the preliminary round of the 3m individual springboard competition.
