Murray is a left-handed doubles specialist who began playing aged 4 at local courts in Dunblane, encouraged by his mother Judy, who was a former Scotland national coach. He turned pro aged 18.

Murray won the 2007 Wimbledon mixed doubles title with Serbia's Jelena Jankovic, becoming the first British player for 20 years to win a senior title at Wimbledon, following in the footsteps of Jeremy Bates & Jo Durie, the 1987 mixed doubles champions.
