Nick Woodbridge

1:58.88 that he set en route to gold in Athens.

At the 2009 modern pentathlon Grand Final in Brazil Wodbridge finished outside of the medals and placed 24th.

Woodbridge started his sporting career as a swimmer with Wellington Swimming Club and then later he joined Telford Athletics Club. He also rode from the age of three,but started riding seriously from seven and bought his own horse aged 11. By then he had also had instruction in shooting so he could compete in pony club tetrathlons and by 13 he was also fencing through Much Wenlock Fencing Club.

In 1999 he competed in his first pentathlon, the National Championships, finishing third. He admits he almost gave up fencing, but he persevered and in 2000 he won the Modern Pentathlon National Championships and was asked to travel overseas with the GB team for the first time.

Woodbridge made his mark on the international scene for the first time by winning gold at the 2004 World Youth Championships in Bulgaria. He followed that up with two World Cup medals and a top-20 finish at the 2006 World Championships, all while still a junior.

Woodbridge made a strong start to 2008, with top-10 finishes in three successive World Cups and ended the 2008 season ranked ninth in the World Cup standings.

He was Britain’s second highest finisher, coming eighth, in the men’s competition at the Bath International in April 2009. Woodbridge followed that up with a 17th place finish at the Rome World Cup in May, when he had been in fourth place going into the run/shoot.

He is a member of the Pentathlon GB World Class Podium Programme and trains at the Pentathlon GB High Performance Centre at the University of Bath.
