At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Mark Hunter raced in the lightweight men’s doubles with Zac Purchase where they produced majestic form to win Great Britain’s first ever-lightweight medal and Olympic Gold. Hunter was awarded an MBE in the 2009 New Year’s Honour list.

In the lead up to Beijing, Hunter and Purchase was the only crew in World Rowing to be unbeaten in every race and they topped the World Cup series.

Hunter started rowing aged 14 at Poplar Blackwall & District Rowing Club.
