At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Alex Partridge won silver in the men's eight. The crew qualified directly for the A Final from the heat ahead of the US Olympic champions, but in the Final just could not hold the Canadians who won. This was Partridge's first Olympics - in 2004, he gained his place in the men's four with Pinsent, Cracknell and Williams but was taken ill 6 weeks before the Games and had to withdraw.

At the World Championships 2009 in Poznan, Partirdge along with Alex Gregory, Matt Langridge, and Ric Egington won gold in the coxless four.
