Katy Livingstone made her Olympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in the modern pentathlon, she placed seventh.

In Beijing, Livingston scored 1072 points in the shoot for 16th place, then won 17 of her fencing contests, losing 18 for a further 808 points and 20th overall. She set a pb of 2:15.68 in the 200m freestyle swim for 1292 points and 15th overall. She produced an exceptional ride to climb a further six places to ninth – she only had the penultimate fence down for 1172 points, putting her a minute and two seconds behind the leader at the start of the run.

Livingston rounded off her Olympic campaign by running 10:29.47 in the 3km run, climbing a couple of places up the field to finished seventh overall.

At the 2009 Grand Final in Brazil Livingstone finished 12th.

Livingston comes from something of a sporting family – her father Tony was a keen runner and has the distinction of once having beaten Sebastian Coe over 800m.

Growing up in Redcar, Livingston started competing at an early age with her local swimming and running clubs – Salburn & Marske ASC and New Marske Harriers. She then took up pistol shooting, fencing and finally horse riding so she could

compete in the modern pentathlon.

Livingston took pentathlon up seriously in 2003, but it didn’t go without its hitches – she said the most frustrating experience of her life has been learning to ride. Nevertheless, Livingston was a member of British teams that medalled in the team or team relay events at the World Junior Championships in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

She made her breakthrough on the senior international stage in 2007, when she won her first World Cup medal in Moscow in 2007. She followed that up by achieving the Beijing 2008 Olympic qualifying standardby coming sixth at the 2007 European Championships in Latvia.

Her achievements in 2007 earned her the British Olympic Association’s modern pentathlon Olympic athlete of the year award.

With the pressure to secure one of the two women’s places on the GB Beijing Olympic team intense, Livingston made a perfect start to her 2008 season by winning her first World Cup title – taking gold in the opening round of the

World Cup in Cairo.

She made sure of her Olympic place with a determined bronze medal winning performance at the 2008 World Championships in Budapest – the final qualification event for the Olympics.

In her final international event of 2008, Livingston finished fourth in the World Cup Final in Portugal – a good enough performance to make sure she ended 2008 third in the world rankings.

Livingston came sixth at the Bath International in March 2009 and her best World Cup performance of the year saw her finish just outside the top-10 in 11th place in Rome.

Livingston has a degree in Coach Education and Sports Development from the University of Bath – where she trains at the Pentathlon GB high performance centre. She is a keen Sheffield Wednesday FC fan and also enjoys shopping.
