Walsh competed in his second Olympic Games in Beijing, hoping to go one better than the silver he won at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Campbell made the semi-finals and finished 15th and did not progress to the final.

At the 2009 European Championships Walsh, Richard Hounslow and Huw Swetnam won silver in a time of 99.46 seconds

Walsh first went in a canoe at the age of eight at Airthery Loch, Stirling and his first race was aged 11 in Kelso.

Walsh displayed fine in 2008, taking gold at the European Championships in May.
