Biography
The youngest known British male Olympian. Lester was 13 years and 144 days old when he coxed Stewart Farquarson and Jeffrey Reeves at the 1960 Olympic Rowing Regatta.
They finished 5th in 7.55.59 in a heat won by the Soviet crew and went into the Repechages where they finished 3rd.
At these Games Germany's gold medal winning cox Klaus Zerta was only a few months older than Lester.
Interviewed about his experiences recently , he recalled being interviewed by Harry Carpenter (then still a newspaperman) and travelling home on the same flight as gold medal winning swimmer Anita Lonsbrough.
It was Lester’s only Olympic appearance though he did row for Wallingford in the 1967 Henley Royal Regatta.
