At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Victoria Pendleton won gold in the women’s individual sprint event adding to the two gold medals she had already won earlier in the year at the UCI Track World Championships.

Following on from her success in Beijing, Pendleton retained her world sprint title at the 2009 UCI Track Event in Pruszkow, although she was pushed to several photo finishes by her Dutch opponent Willy Kanis.

Pendleton arrived on the sprinting scene with a real bang in 2001, with no less than four silver medals in National Championships.
