At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Jo Jackson won an Olympic bronze medal in the 400m freestyle behind teammate and rival Rebecca Adlington.
In early 2009, Jackson set a new world record in the 400m freestyle (long course) beating Olympic gold medallist Adlington, who also broke the current world record. At the 2009 World Championships, she claimed silver in the 400m freestyle, finishing behind Pellegrini but ahead of Adlington.
