Elise Laverick was selected in the women's double scull for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and won her second Olympic bronze medal.

An Olympic bronze medallist in 2004 who fought her way back to fitness in 2005 after being the victim of a 'hit–and–run' accident, Laverick won a bronze medal in the double at the World Rowing Championships in 2007.  In the 2008 World Cup series she raced in the double placing fifth, fifth and first.
